Oscar Gaspari

Oscar Gaspari was born in Italy. He moved to the United States of America at a very young age with his family. Oscar grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, which was a large Japanese community. He was inspired by the simplicity and colorfulness of this astonishing cultural community. Oscar was also hugely inspired by the ancient technique of the Sumi-E Art Form, where the artist captures contrast and harmony, and expresses elegant beauty with a single brushstroke in black charcoal ink. Oscar replicates this process on canvas or paper with acrylic and uses found objects and household tools such as mops and brooms to transform the ancient technique into a modern form of art. He found inspiration from the Japanese calligrapher and artist Rona Conti.
